It always picked things well even if I didn’t know that much about a picture. Then they changed the way it works. Now it picks well in the good areas but not so good in other areas. They did a very bad job of replacing the Magic Wand tool.

When it comes to the addition of the Paper and Drawing tools to the iPad Pro, I have misgivings. The Pencil is a fun input device, and I think that any customer who buys the iPad Pro regardless of Paper or Creative Cloud can find a use. However, the Pencil was already around long before the Paper functionality, so it feels a bit like Apple was playing catch up, introducing new features when the Paper toolkits in other manufacturers’ hardware had been written – and rewritten – for a decade already. And, as Apple’s rivals point out, Apple is arguably the last company in the consumer electronics industry with a chance to make the Pencil into a vital input device.

I don’t think that even a $600 price would have been enough to keep me interested in the Pencil, so $1,000 isn’t likely to change that. Of course, $1,000 is the price of a good Apple Watch ( just for example), and so Apple Watch Co-Founder, Jeff Williams, sees a future for the Pencil. My problem is simply that I think the Pencil is mispriced and I don’t think it’s a good expenditure of my money. If I had a potential customer who has held off until the iPad Pro was available, and they could justify the cost of the iPad Pro and loss of productivity due to the Pencil being the primary input device, I just wouldn’t push it.

This feature can be difficult to use particularly when choosing which edges to erase. The first step for people not familiar with it is to define the edge you want to erase. You can do this by using color. Next, you can go to Adjustments and select Modify Edge. This will make the Edge Modify Tool (the eraser tool) similar to the Polygonal Lasso tool as now it’s selecting the pixels around your selected areas edge.

The Blur filter makes your photo more like a painting. The masking tool at the top right lets you mask areas and then move the mask to create a gradient effect. You can create a template to keep your photos organized. This is helpful in some instances but may not be useful in others. If you export a RAW image in the JPEG format it is saved as a normal JPEG file.

Select Modify Edge to create a precise selection around an area that you want to have no blur around. This feature is only available when Adjustments is selected. It won’t blur a subject in the background but does remove the blur from the edges of a subject’s face.
